We talked initially about how to integrate BDSM into our lifestyle, and the reference that we used was that of Master/slave. A good example that comes to mind is that of kneeling as a way of showing respect, recognizing authority, the classic slave kneel is with thighs parted, hands resting on thighs palms upward. Part of the reason for this is the obvious show of submission, the other part is the slave offering themselves for their Master's approval. Whilst I like acts that reinforce my submissiveness, I find the formality of this, and some of the attached symbolism, quite droll. I don't want a stuffy life filled with meaningless protocol. I want my Owner and I to have fun.
I propose then, that instead of a kneel, we have a heel! :)
I guess it doesnt really differ that greatly from the traditional kneel, aside from being a lot more relaxed. Simply being in the lowered on the ground position I feel is enough to display submissiveness without the need for posturing and posing. I also dislike greatly the mindset that slaves should sit silently and await their Master's recognition. Fuck that. I want to be able to talk to my Owner, play with him, engage him freely, seek his attention. If this is not what he wants at that given time then he can tell me to sit quietly, but I won't live a life where every moment I have to beg for recognition.
When my Owner comes home from work, rather than kneeling in such a formal manner, sitting and waiting silently for his recognition, I would much rather greet him at the door with a smile and a kiss (at this point if I had a tail I would be wagging it!), then lower to the floor in either a sit or a kneel and wrap my arms around him.
In the evening when the rest of the household is tucked away, coming to sit at his feet, placing my chin on his knee. There I would be content to either have my hair stroked, settling comfortably into position, or await his command of "lap" or seeing him pat the spot on the lounge beside him, my cue to come up next to him and cuddle.
As human beings we take pets, puppies and kittens, because of the comfort they bring to us. We like to stroke them, pet them, pamper them... in return we feel better about ourselves. Pets accept us unconditionally, they don't see our flaws, they love with loyalty, and they are content to be by their Owner's side. Studies show that human's with pets have a lower blood pressure and live longer, happier, healthier lives. Calmer, more at peace, we know with our pet we always have a companion we can turn to.
A slave's purpose is to serve their Master. A pet's purpose is to please their Owner. I think these are worlds apart, and I know that in servitude eventually I would be miserable. Since being able to define our relationship as Owner/pet I have never felt such contentment.
He asked me how it feels to be called "pet" rather than by my given name. It makes me feel special. It reinforces my submissiveness. I feel loved, cherished and above all, I feel the overwhelming desire to want to please him.

Welcome back pet!!! So nice to see a new entry here! Was hoping that all was well with you.
I can certainly relate to all that you write of as far as pets and Owners.
The first thing My pet does when I arrive is to kneel after I arrive... say his 'mantra' to Me.. while I kneel with him and look into his eyes, then I put on his collar and we hug and share a deep kiss.
'Mundane' time with him is spent cuddled on his couch wrapped in his arms. I suppose you could say we like to pet each other. There are times he gets that gleam in his eye and he will ask to give Me pleasure. Mmmmm...something I am most always agreeable to.
I am with you on that not being quite so stiff and formal ourselves. Paladin knows that he can always talk to Me. He is under no speech restrictions of any sort, and I like it that way. Just to be agreeable and respectful.
I suppose I would have to say that Paladin serves as both a pleasure slave, and as a pet. I'm not sure what that makes him.. a unique combo of some sort perhaps. He does both quite wonderfully. Perhaps this makes him something like a 'service pet'.. (smile) and since I also call him My blue eyed stallion.. well.. you can imagine My most favorite sorts of service from him.
I do call Paladin 'pet' most of the time.. although I also enjoy using his given name, and it brings him great pleasure for Me to use his name at moments of... extreme passion shall we say. Ever since he told Me how much he likes it.. I make sure that I do. For what makes Me happy makes him happy, and visa versa as well.
Anyways, so glad that you are back..
Wishing you a wonderful day,
Mystress
